Maximising Accelerated Teaching

Sara has been teaching the cello for over twenty years. She teaches to diploma/degree level, and is always looking for new techniques to further accelerate the speed at which students learn, without losing the depth of technique or understanding of the music that is necessary to perform well. She has students playing to a National level, with young people playing in the National Childrens’ Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and the National Strings’ Academy. She teaches both privately and occasionally as a guest teacher, routinely giving talks, masterclasses and workshops for various schools, colleges and universities. She has just completed her second of a series of books on accelerated learning, 'Solotude - Igniting the Flare in Performance'. The first, 'Cellotude - a Fast Track to Brilliance' is due out in September 2006, published by Beautiful Books Ltd. It has already received accolades from the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music, Chetham's School of Music, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the conductors Peter Stark and Marin Alsop.

What the students say…

"Sara's lessons motivate me to work and inspire me to listen to more music. With Sara's help I have managed to get my playing up to a National level and I hope to move on to one of the Conservatoires when I leave school. I have a much greater understanding of my cello technique and am able to work out my own interpretation of pieces under Sara's guidance." ~ Hannah McLorinan

"I grew up in Austria and, at the age of fourteen, moved to England. At that time I was a weak grade four standard and not particularly enjoying my cello. However, a year and a half later, after lessons with Sara, I had taken my grade eight cello and passed with distinction. Sara always manages to make her lessons fun and enjoyable. Perhaps her greatest merit is her seemingly infinite amount of patience as well as her ability to make her students (including me!) find the motivation and will to practise."

"She is a teacher who treats me with respect, empathises with me and understands how to stretch me to my limits. I am very grateful to her as she has provided me with the key to unlock and enjoy music for the rest of my life. She is a real inspiration." ~ Andreas Spanring

What the parents/guardians say…

"Sara always ensures that Ellie is well prepared for her auditions and performances, so they are an enjoyable experience—for both Ellie and the audience. I would thoroughly recommend Sara as a first class teacher." ~ Jackie Thomas...parent
